Pakistan - One dead, another injured as boiler explodes at Karachi chemical factory

One worker died, and another sustained serious burn injuries on Wednesday after a boiler exploded at a chemical factory near Port Qasim in Karachi's Bin Qasim area, police said.According to the Bin Qasim Station House Officer (SHO) Faisal Rafiq, the incident occurred at a chemical company located within the jurisdiction of Bin Qasim Town police station.Both workers sustained burn injuries and were immediately shifted to the nearby Al-Khidmat Hospital in an Edhi ambulance.Rafiq said the deceased was identified as 35-year-old Muhammad Sohail, son of Shah Muhammad, while the injured worker was identified as 45-year-old Waheed."Workers were carrying out welding work at the chemical factory when gas accumulated inside the boiler, causing it to explode with a loud blast," he said.Rafiq added that the injured worker was being shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.On Monday, a massive fire engulfed and precariously damaged a garments factory near Metroville in Karachi’s SITE area, prompting the deployment of fire and rescue teams. However, the fire was brought under control after eight hours of firefighting operations.On September 7, A fire broke out at an old-clothes factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone (EPZ). The blaze later spread to an adjacent factory, while part of the original factory building also collapsed. On January 17, a massive fire at the Gul Plaza shopping mall killed over 70 people.
